GGB Montreal – Montreal Comiccon Dim Sum Brunch

Since Montreal Comic Con moved up its dates this year to take place in July this year instead of September like in previous years, Geek Girl Brunch Montreal decided that our July event would have to coincide with Comiccon. And since the Palais de congres where Comiccon is held is right on the edge of Montreal’s China town we decided that an early dim sum brunch would be a great way to get everyone together before hitting the con.

As expected, Chinatown is full of delicious dim sum options, but for this brunch we chose Le cristal chinois because of the wide selection of dishes and because it’s a little less known and therefor we’d have less trouble seating a dozen super excited geek girls. Considering we still had people showing up an hour after our original reservation, the staff at Le crystal chinois were very accommodating and friendly.

Officer Gina even decided to film the event as part of her upcoming documentary on women who are geeks. All of the photos from this recap are actually screenshots from the footage she captured during brunch.

We also had a couple of out of town Geek Girl Brunches visiting with Boston. Although they weren’t able to attend Comiccon with the rest of us we were super happy they made it out and hopefully we inspired them to start a Boston branch.

We had way too much fun discuss what we were excited to see at Comiccon and even shared some awesome geek crafts, like this Parks and Rec themed embroidery piece.

After dim sum we made our way down to Harmony bakery for Totoro buns and posed for a photo outside (top). Once we were all properly stuffed with Chinese goodies we parted ways to either attend the con or enjoy the rest of the gorgeous sunny day.
