GGB Lubbock: Day of the Brunchettes!

GGB Lubbock: Day of the Brunchettes!

On October 24th, Geek Girl Brunch Lubbock met at Rain Uptown for our second brunch, which we titled “Day of the Brunchettes,” a Halloween-themed brunch! It was a wonderful time and we saw a lot of returning brunchettes as well as some new faces! The restaurant was gorgeous and everyone was excited to be meeting up again. We talked costumes, caught up on what everyone had been up to, and drooled over the menu. A lot of us got mimosas which were delicious and came in multiple flavors! The Apple Mimosa was amazing!

So cute!!

Each girl got a bag of goodies put together by Officer Sherida (they looked so cute!) filled with masks and candy and glow sticks. It was like an early Halloween and they had cute decorations on them! We even gave one to our waitress and bartender for being amazing and taking care of us so well.

The omelettes were yummy!

Talk ranged from the crazy things people’s kids did to how our local geek scene in our little town has been growing so much over the past year, especially for women. Our local comic book shop, Star Comics, (with the help of Officer Sam) was having their third Ladies Night event that same night and many of the girls were attending, some of the girls were part of putting together the local convention Lubbock-Con that was happening in February, and one of our brunchettes who owns a game store, Stormcrow Games, was even starting up her own Ladies Board Game Brunch! It’s been really exciting to have more events to attend, especially ones more female-friendly and where the ladies can either bring their kids or leave them with the men and just go enjoy themselves.

After the food was served and we all chowed down, we raffled off some items we had collected for the girls. We had a  couple of tradebacks of Walking Dead vol. 1, a Nightmare Before Christmas mug, Star Wars books and a bag, things about Zombies, and more. After we were done eating, we talked longer about comics and cosplay and the different movies coming out. It was nice to catch up with everyone and we didn’t want to part!

Everyone had a blast and we loved putting it together! A lot of brunchettes have even stayed connected after brunches and friendships are forming, which is one of our goals! We want to introduce more geek girls to each other and make sure they always feel comfortable and welcome and have a good time! See you at the next brunch, ladies!
