GGB Portland – Marvelous Avengers Brunch

The Portland chapter of Geek Girl Brunch recently hosted their inaugural brunch with the theme of Marvel Avengers on May 2nd at Mother’s Bistro and Bar in downtown Portland. Trying to find a brunch location that takes reservations in Portland is slim pickings but Mother’s was happy to have us ladies! We had amazing food, drinks, and a stellar server. Marvel related attire included everyday Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow and even Squirrel Girl!

The swag was provided by Pop Crimes, a friend of Geek Girl Brunch PDX . She created these amazing keychains, representing the various different characters from Marvel Avengers with cute slogans. Brunchettes were able to trade keychains with each other to obtain the keychain of their favorite character. Shortly before brunch arrived, the group participated in Marvel trivia, proving that the Marvel universe is not only large but challenging. One of the lucky brunchettes, missing only one answer to receive a perfect score, walked away with a Mystique pop figure.

After brunch, the group had enough time to slide into The Floating World comic book shop; it was Free Comic Book Day after all. Brunchettes picked up various comics including Captain America and Jem & The Holograms. Other post brunch activities included getting Froyo together and of course, seeing the new Avengers: Age of Ultron movie. So many new friendships were formed during brunch. Women who walked in as complete strangers chatted as if they were best buddies three hours later. Everyone was so happy to finally have a group like this happen in Portland and even more delighted knowing that another (bigger) brunch was already in the works.
