The Miami Officers

Natalie is a Latinx born and raised in Miami, FL. She’s a Graphic Designer by day and geek girl at night that just loves to catch up on a manga or play one level of something on the Nintendo Switch right before bed. Her geek history dates all the way back to watching DBZ with her older brother in the living room as a child. It then evolved into watching and drawing cartoons before/after school such as Pokémon, YuGiOh!, and Sailor Moon; Her older sister took her to the opening screening of Harry Potter and well…she is still heartbroken that her Hogwarts letter never arrived. But it’s ok; She got a degree in Digital Art at a local university instead. She found out about GGB through a different fandom (BlackMilkClothing Sharkies what’s up!) and since then has met a fantastic geeky group of peeps in Miami.

Geeky Top 10: Pokémon, Nintendo, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel, Anime, Manga, K-Dramas, Music, and Video games.

Jennifer is a Colombian-American born and raised in Miami and she likes to make things. She studied art since she was 6 when she watched Jurassic Park every day and drew dinosaurs a lot, so her teachers took notice. She loves TV series, movies, reading and listening to music while walking around lip-syncing. If she’s left her headphones at home, she’ll likely buy a new pair.

For the last 6 years, she’s been binge-watching Korean dramas and has developed many crushes from them. She sometimes plays her ukulele (which she built) at the park, crochets while watching TV, or forages for fruit. She has fond memories of climbing mango trees after watching Pokemon and drawing Pokemon up in the trees while eating the mangos like an apple. After working as a graphic designer for an English school, she looked around and realized her job was really isolating and that she’d always had a knack for explaining things and being patient with others. She worked on her teaching certification and has since lived and taught in China and in Japan.

Geeky Top 10: Pokémon, Harry Potter, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Kakao Friends, Disney, K-Pop, Nintendo, and Game of Thrones.

Brunch Drink: Grapefruit Mimosa

Animated Boyfriend: Tadashi Hamada (Big Hero 6) or Fox Robin Hood

Alex is a Miami native that’s been around the world, but always finds her way back home. She’s a loquacious librarian with multi-color hair that has an affinity for alliteration and all things books, horror, and tv/film. She speaks in pop culture references and every day is reason enough to dress up. A middle schooler she taught once asked, “Ms. [Alex], do you just have a closet full of costumes?”

…that is the best compliment ever!

Her love for all things geek is attributed to her favorite channel growing up: Cartoon Network, including Adult Swim and all things Hanna-Barbera Productions. The best introduction to anime and classic (and awesome) cartoons.

She is currently in the process of collecting the Deluxe Volume sets of the manga Berserk (RIP Kentaro Miura) to add to her personal library collection.

Geeky Top 10: Scooby-Doo, Supernatural, What We Do in the Shadows, BBC Sherlock, DC Universe, 70s-80s-90s Slashics, Enamel Pins (Horror), the Whedonverse, Steven Universe, and mystery boardgames.

Brunch Drink: Pineapple Prosecco Punch or a Tangled Up in Blueshine

Animated Boyfriend(s): Sesshomaru (Inuyasha) & Alucard (Hellsing)

Yesi is a Cuban-Peruvian born and raised in Miami. She’s been reading and snapping photos since before she could probably talk. She loved it so much that she made it her career as a book editor/coach and as a photographer. Her love for geeky things began one day after school years ago when she sat down to watch Sailor Moon and Pokémon. Yesi immediately fell in love with the fandoms—including (to this day)a little obsession with how cute Pikachu is—amongst a bunch of others! She also has a fine appreciation for puns that she named one of her businesses after one. No really, she did! For years she was painfully shy (any fellow Pisces in the house?) to join GGB & one day she said “enough!” And, well, here we are! When not writing or capturing people in her camera, you can probably find her wearing one of her million pairs of sunglasses on her fourth cup of coffee whilst trying to find more Archie comics for her collection.

Geeky Top 10: Unicorns, Sailor Moon, Disney, Harry Potter, Korean dramas, K-Pop, Doctor Who, Studio Ghibli, Lore Olympus, Theatre/Musicals.

Brunch Drink: Spiked Rose Lemonade

Animated Boyfriend: Tuxedo Mask or Eugene Fitzherbert
