Philadelphia’s Summer Brunch Recap

Philadelphia’s Summer Brunch Recap

Summer is a busy time of year for Geek Girl Brunch Philadelphia, and this year was no exception! Check out some highlights below from our awesomely themed brunches in May, June, July, and August.

May – Jane Austen Tea Party

Thank you to Brunchette Rebecca for some fabulous photos.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that brunchettes in possession of good taste, must be in want of a tea party.

It was in this spirit that GGB Philadelphia deviated from the standard brunch event in May by celebrating tea & togetherness with a Jane Austen-themed tea party! Officer Angelique graciously opened her new home to brunchettes for an elegant, regency-themed tea.

GGB Philly Officers planned and executed a unique tea party menu for brunchettes. Members arrived, looking resplendent in their finest, and soon gossip was flowing as freely as the beverages. Most noteworthy was an assortment of tea sandwiches, freshly-baked scones, and lavender tea bread, as well as an array of fruits and preserves for the main staples of tea. Pixie’s Bakery (under the auspices of Officer Samantha) donated Earl Grey and Lemon cupcakes to top off the afternoon. Officers Angelique and Robin brought a vast selection of teas for brunchettes to sample, and also made a selection of colored and flavored sugar cubes!

During tea, attendees used paint pens to decorate their own glass teacups as mementos. Raffles included a full tea set, a Jane Austen coloring book, a geek-themed mug, and a copy of Pride by Ibi Zoboi, donated by former Officer Feliza.

June – 4th Anniversary Brunch

In June, Geek Girl Brunch Philadelphia celebrated 4 full years of brunches at Craft Hall, a large converted warehouse, home to Mainstay Independent Brewing and Lost Bread Co Bakery. The large open space was perfect for Brunchettes to have the opportunity to celebrate our 4th anniversary.

Our theme was remembering brunches past, and swag from previous brunches helped spark conversations about our favorite themes, venues, and swag from GGBPhilly days of yore. Veteran brunchettes recounted themes from brunches they attended in the past, and newer brunchettes shared what they’d like to see in the future.

Brunchettes could not get enough of the Hello Kitty tattoos from our past brunch at Kawaii Kitty Cafe. We tried different techniques for application and while most failed, a scant few were very successful!

July – Sirens and Scallywags Brunch

Ahoy Mateys! Philadelphia turned to the high seas in July for our Sirens and Scallywags brunch. We celebrated all things Pirates and Mermaids during brunch at Misconduct Tavern.

We tried our hands at temporary tattoos again this month. This time, pirate themed! Some were successful and some were not, but a great time was had by all. Brunchettes tried on bandannas and eye patches and made for quite the intimidating group of pirates.

Raffles in July were highly sought after, including “naughty” pirate books and mermaid stemware and tumblers.

August – Time Travel Brunch

Is there a better way to celebrate time travel then to visit Old City Philadelphia for brunch and ice cream? Based on the turn out at our August brunch, Brunchettes in Philadelphia don’t seem to think so. Revolution House was the perfect setting for our Time Travel brunch in August. Philadelphia brunchettes gathered on the 2nd story balcony of the restaurant to brunch together with beautiful views of the city.

After brunch the group walked nearby to The Franklin Fountain. As they say themselves, ” The Franklin Fountain aims to serve an experience steeped in ideals, drizzled with drollery, and sprinkled with the forgotten flavors of the American past.” Brunchettes enjoyed ice cream, floats, and everything in-between.

Stay tuned for our September Brunch at Iron Hill Brewery in Chestnut Hill. Harry Potter Brunch returns for the 5th September in a row. Our most popular brunch of the year!
