Geek Girl Brunch Atlanta’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Brunch

Westerosi political intrigue, dragons, and white walkers: where can you find all of these? Brunch, of course!

On July 23, the Atlanta Brunchettes gathered at Wahoo Grill in Decatur to celebrate the start of Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” and talk dragons, Westerosi political intrigue, and the White Walkers’ seemingly endless journey toward The Wall.

We chose Wahoo Grill because 1) both their drink menu and brunch specials are great (the French Toast Points with mascarpone cream and fresh peaches were especially tasty) and 2) they have a beautiful plant-filled patio reminiscent of one of the Red Keep’s gardens.

To keep in line with the GoT theme, we brought along homemade, rose water sugar cookies shaped like the Great Houses’ sigils (Thank you again, Jesse!), which were stored in a dragon’s egg cookie jar, because of course they were. Pens and key chains featuring the sigils doubled as both giveaways and decorations.

The season premiere had already aired by the time we were able to meet, giving us a great deal to talk about. Jon is pretty much killing it as the King in the North. Arya’s revenge on the Freys was both disgusting and wonderful, and we can’t wait for her to finally make her way back to Winterfell. What is Bran going to do now that he is officially the Three-Eyed Dragon? Daenerys is in Dragonstone! How long until everyone knows that R PLUS L DOES, IN FACT, EQUAL J?! Cersei is on the Iron Throne, and is clearly vying to be the most cunning, vindictive and ruthless character we have ever seen on a show that has had Petyr Baelish lurking around sowing chaos and discord for seven seasons. Basically, we are all pretty excited.

All in all, it was an excellent time, and we are currently in the process of planning our next event and for prepping for DragonCon, which begins on Saturday, September 1. If you’ll be in town, be sure to stop by Geek Girl Brunch Jax’s meet up at Gibney’s Pub Atlanta on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. Hope to see you there!
