GGB Pittsburgh’s “We Wish You a Merry Sith-mas” Holiday Party

GGB Pittsburgh’s “We Wish You a Merry Sith-mas” Holiday Party

The Empire tried to force the cancellation of our final brunch of 2016 by sending a crippling ice storm to Pittsburgh on the eve of our December brunch, but our ladies could not be deterred! Driven by friends, family, and the Force, 20 ladies braved the Hoth-like climate to join GGB Pittsburgh to help us celebrate the release of Star Wars: Rogue One and the holiday season!

Though we cancelled the movie portion of our outing to allow the roads a few hours to thaw, two brave local ladies still trudged through the ice, ice melt, and hills to watch the new film together.  We met afterwards at the local BJ’s Brewhouse to hear their spoiler-free review.

Over avocado rolls, burgers, and some delicious spiked drinks that kept arriving at our table that tasted like Butterbeer (no, seriously!), discussions dove deep into conversations about the Star Wars universe, comicon cosplays, and what brunches in 2017 we were most looking forward to.  Many of the ladies were joining GGB for the first time.  They had heard about us at Pittsburgh Wizard World, and we were excited to welcome them into our geeky folds.

After our meal, we had a huge swag giveaway and gift swap to end the year.  This was our second year of Secret Bantha, and almost every lady brought a gift to swap with someone else.  Soon wrapping paper was flying as ladies uncovered geeky coloring books, comics, blankets, and one very adorable Ewok hat.  With some homemade swag from Officer Laura, it was the perfect way to end not only brunch, but 2016.

Once brunch was over, 8 ladies walked over to the movie theater to redeem the morning’s ice storm, and bought tickets for an afternoon showing of Rogue One.  That’s what Geek Girl Brunch is all about – continuing the geeky fun even after brunch was over!

A huge thank you to all of the ladies who braved the awful weather to join us for our December brunch – we had such a great time with everyone who managed to show up for the meal!  Another thank you to BJ’s Brewhouse in McCandless for being so accommodating with our ever changing plans due to the storm.

We had a fantastic 2016, and we can’t wait to see what 2017 brings us.  Onward!
